I Am Going to Reverse Osteoporosis!

August, 1, 2025: Day 2 of Reversing Osteoporosis!

I have recently been diagnosed with Osteoporosis (not Osteopenia!). I have been active my entire life. I ran 9 marathons (probably part of the problem). I have lifted weights, jumped rope, rode my bike, walked.. walked..walked. I have coached people along my health coaching journey to help them pass their bone density test. NOW, I am going to reverse my own poor bone health.

It was a big shock on July 18, 2025 when my doctor said "Hey, let's get a bone density test before you go!" Oh ok, I thought. I am so excited to see how awesome my bones are! WOW.

My doctor who I love, told me to make an appointment with his NP who is an expert in bone health. He said the first line of defense is drugs like Fosamax. Nope. I know that these drugs DO pretend to increase bone density. What they really do is to stop the osteoclasts from breaking down bad bone and good bone so that it looks like you are increasing the density. The problem is that the bad bone stays and becomes very inflexible. When you fall, your bones shatters, not just a fracture. No thanks.

God put many things in my life to help me at this moment. I know so much about nutrition and exercise. I can do this. The last 2.5 years I have been sidelined for a foot and hip surgery, both on the right side. Did this contribute? We will never know.

Here is what I know:

  1. When astronauts come back from space, they have lost bone due to no weight bearing. They recover with exercises and diet. Some of them were not that young. I know I can do this.
  2. Children jump, climb and run down the hallway sounding like elephants. They are building bone. I can do this.
  3. Jumping rope is a great way to stimulate the break down and building of bones. I know I can do this.
  4. The conventional drugs do not work. I will not do this.
  5. I am young enough to take the time to reverse this. I can do this.
  6. I know that vibration plates with resistance builds bones. We have an X3 vibration plate at my Team Rehab Location. I can do this.
  7. Osteostrong Clinics use special machines where your bones get compressed causing them to break down (osteoclasts) and build up (osteoblasts). I went 7/31 for my first session in Strongsville, OH (3 hour drive) . I can do this.
When people tell me something cannot be reversed, changed, made better..it only makes me more determined to prove them wrong. I cannot wait until I get my Dexa Scan next July to show my doctor that I did it my way.

Exercise Today: Jumped rope 500 + times (taking a break at work to do 50 jumps at a time) and light weights, vibration plate doing squats with resistance.

Photo below: my first session at Osteostrong. I leg pressed 1183 lbs which was 8.8x my body weight (the goal is 4.2 x your body weight). I am doing this!
